Secondary education ministry lauds efforts of assembly in promoting education in crisis-hit North West

The regional delegate of secondary education for the North West , Mbaijong Ezekiel has appreciated the efforts of The North West Regional Assembly in promoting education in the region

The delegate during a presentation at the on-going 14th ordinary session of the assembly indicated that many students where able to write the General Certificate of Education and other exams thanks to the North West Regional Assembly.

The structure which came as part of measures to resolve the anglophone crisis in the north west, thanks to the special status, registered a good number of students for the official examinations in the 2023/24 academic year.

According to north west delegate for secondary education " the assembly last academic year , was able to register a total of 563 vulnerable candidates for official examinations with 406 of these candidates recording a pass"

He also pointed out that 1,599 students were supported with didactics with 1420 of these students using the didactics to gain promotion in advanced classes of their respective schools.

In reconstruction and rehabilitation efforts, the regional assembly as attested by the regional delegate of secondary education, constructed a total of 563 classrooms in the north west, rehabilitating 1599 rooms while donating a total of over 1000 benches in the process.

Statistics from his presentation indicated that for the just ended school year only 290 schools went functional in the region amidst the lots.

For the current academic year, which has seen challenges of lockdowns and boycotts as announced by Amazonian separatists in the region like in the south west, statistics as presented indicated the following:

A total of 12,494 students began schooling this academic year in the entire region despite the challenges.

Statistics as at September 13th 2024 puts it that Donga Mantung division for the current school year, has so far recorded the highest number of students in class, as seen in the below statistics.

While highlighting some of the challenges in ensuring a hitch free academic year in the region, he also pointed some measures to be adopted to ensure that these challenges are curbed to the maximum.

The role education stakeholders, parents and guardians must play in realizing effective schooling must not be undermined.

A total of 32 computers will be awarded to some 32 schools to boost their individual ICT units by the assembly that will in this September session honour a total of 103 students for their performance in the just ended school year, as explained by the assembly 's president Fru Angwafor III.
