One Month After the Pope’s Visit to Cameroon: Unity Rhetoric vz Ground Reality

Image
The red carpet is rolled up. The speeches are over. The Pope spoke of peace, unity, and justice in Cameroon. One month later, the question isn’t what he said. It’s what changed. Politicians count on this: say the right words, let the moment pass, and hope people forget. But faith without action is empty rhetoric. You can’t preach unity in Yaoundé while war still rages in the Northwest and Southwest. That’s not the Gospel. That’s performance. Jesus put it plainly: “ Practice what you preach” [Matt. 23]. And He summed the entire Law and Prophets in one line: “ Do to others what you would have them do to you” [Matt. 7:12]. That’s the standard. Not applause lines. Not photo ops. No Justice, No Peace In my last article, “ No Justice, No Peace,” I argued that real peace demands truth about the past. The Church endorsed the Doctrine of Discovery. Papal Bulls justified slavery. Christian institutions stood by as Africa was carved up and colonized.  So I’ll say it again:   No Peace without Ju...

Image
By Martial Gnoukapasir Prefectoral Order designating Mbengwiteghenibi a 3rd-class fondom Despite the protests in Mbengwi few days back, one fact remains, that the Senior Divisional Officer for Momo Division, Fouda Etaba Benoit, officially signed the prefectoral order creating the 3rd Class Chiefdom of Mbengwi teghenibi village in Mbengwi Sub Division, North West Region. The administrative decision, officially recognizes Mbengwiteghenibi as a distinct traditional entity within Momo Division. According to the order, the newly created fondom will maintain clearly defined territorial boundaries, separating it administratively from neighboring villages and quarters around Mbengwi. The document also empowers the Divisional Officer for Mbengwi to organize consultation talks aimed at the future designation of a traditional ruler for the new chiefdom. However, MNews takes note of the fact that the prefectoral order only creates the 3rd Class fondom and does not appoint or designate any Fon or t...

Sone Bayen Sizes Up Potential Replacement for Sona Ebai, former CDC Board Chair

Image
A Sone Bayen's Reflection Azong Wara Andrew It is a difficult and painful task for me, as a son of Manyemen, Upper Balong, bereaved by the demise of my village traditional ruler, Chief Hope Sona Ebai, to discuss his replacement at the helm of the Cameroon Development Corporation (CDC) Board of Directors even before he is laid to rest. However, events or an occurrence has imposed this on the public space with the release of a letter recommending Andrew Azong Wara for the position. It cannot be too soon anymore to begin sizing up the declared candidate and other potential ones, most of whom may not even be aware or interested. The next board chairman will be the eighth, counting from VE Mukete who held the position from 1960 to 1982, SML Endeley (1982 - 1990), Etame Massoma (1991 - 1992), NN Mbile (1992 - 2003) , Namata Elangwe (2003 - 2014), Benjamin Itoe (2014 - 2021), Hope Sona Ebai (2021 - 2026). Excepting Massoma who held the position briefly during his tenure as governor of th...
