Edge Company Saves Bamenda from an Impending Health Catastrophe.
By Gnoukapasir Martial.
In an in-depth interview Mnews237 accorded Mr Tachang Pius, Chief executive boss of the road construction firm EDGE Tuesday July 2nd as he and his team cleared one of the garbage heap that had piled up at the entrance to metta quarters, as was the case before along major and minor streets, junctions and markets in the city of Bamenda, he explained that the decision to fit himself in the shoes of Hysacam, the structure contracted by gov't to ensure proper sanitation of the town, was because the stockpile of garbage in the city "...was fast becoming a real health problem..".
Reason why the enterprise after declaring their intentions via writing to the Bamenda city council, Mezam SDO and mayors of the concerned councils, embarked on the clean up campaign exercise titled:
"Fight Against Epidemic, Bamenda Deserves Better"
With objective to save the population from the impending health doom that was looming in the city as he explained.
The services he rendered for free began Friday June 28 and lasted four working days and as further expantiated by Mr Pius, the voluntary exercise was part of their own coporate social responsibility towards the community.
Bamenda city dwellers and guest of the region are still saluting the initiative which have permitted them to breath some fresh air after a long while.
The edge boss in the course of the interview refuted allegations that he was contracted by the city council to embark on the humanitarian activity.
Bamenda he adds use to be one of the cleanest city in Cameroon but for some time now even before the crisis, the city had lost that status/ position.
He maintained that it is a civic responsibility for the city dwellers to ensure the town is clean, and that edge was in no way stepping on the toes of Hysacam, though he looks forward to see the enterprise assume it's main responsibility of keeping the city clean as was the case when they came in.
Before stepping out to execute the philanthropic gesture, heaps had piled up for close to six months in the city without being cleared.
Including the material and human resources alongside time factored into the operation, the company quantified it's expenses to be around Fcfa 50 million.
To note that Hysacam following the ongoing crisis facing the two english regions of Cameroon has suffered a number of set backs in discharging it's activities. Their garbage truck was set ablaze by seperatists, access to the mbelewa dump site was cut off some months back and was finally repaired while some workers of the enterprise have equally suffered kidnapps by seperatists fighters.
