SOMALILAND: A MODEL IN LEADERSHIP AND DEMOCRACY IN AFRICA - AYP DEPUTY SPEAKER MELVIN SONGWE SHUYE AFFIRMS

AYP Deputy Speaker Melvin Songwe

 Deputy speaker for African Youth Parliament(AYP) Central Africa, Cameroon's RT Hon Melvin Songwe Shuye has described the leadership of the Republic of Somaliland as a model, worth emulating by other countries in Africa.

This was at a press conference in Bamenda Cameroon dubbed "AYP Somaliland to the world" on Sunday December 15th.
The deputy speaker made the remark few weeks after an advocay trip to the republic of Somaliland between Nov 21st to 25th 2019, which provided him and fellow members of the AYP delegation the opportunity to obtain first hand, information relating to the socio-economic and political lifestyle of the country.

 Values, experiences and a quintessential leadership which he confesses could be modeled as a prototype for leadership in the entire african continent.

Hon Melvin Songwe attests that during their stay in the country, they were able to assert the belief that arts and culture  could be a tool to drive educational advancements, social awareness and economic development.

Via a press release, he presented the historical perspective to the somaliland struggle, the conventional justification of the country's independence and went further to recommend as follows:
-That the African Union and United Nations and other state plus non state actors respect the territorial and political soveriegnty of the republic of Somaliland.

-That other countries begin the process of commencing socio-economic relationship with the said country.
-The global community should join and support the African Youth Parliament on their awareness and solidarity campaign "Somaliland to the world" and that the African Youth Parliament shall continue to support the cause of justice and the Republic of Somaliland in her quest for political recognition and sovereignty.


It should be noted the African Youth Parliament, founded in 2003 is working towards  promoting and advocating for youthful solutions to Africa's fundamental challenges amongs which include the fight against uncivil behaviour, descrimination, social marginalization and poverty amongst youths in Africa.
