The secretary general at the North West  governors office Viang Mekala on Wednesday April 29th 2020 received North West's share of the 2billion worth of sanitary materials donated by the head of state to fight against the Covid-19 pandemic in the region.

At exactly 1:10pm, the three trucks containing 1,870 cubes of soap, 1,020 30littres of hand sanitizer, 6,800 buckets and 34,000 masks stopped at the explanade of the governors office.

According to the secretary general, distribution will begin on April 30th, as all 34 sub- divisions of the region are expected to benefit from the package.

SG receiving the materials

"It is with joy and enthusiasm that we just received this assistance from the head of state to benefit the region. On behalf of the entire population we thank the head of state for his magnanimity. We'll begin distribution tomorrow in all seven divisions. It should be noted that after we took some measures against Covid-19 in the region, the people complained of the absence of means to get the masks, sanitizers etc. Now that they're here they should make good use of it.."

The sub director for civil protection at MINAT Tchuente Gilbert who accompanied the materials to the region said the gift will assist the region to better implement the Covid-19 sanitary measures.

There are however, questions with hovering answers as to wether the items mentioned above will be enough for the population in all 34 sub-divisions of the region.

NW delegate of public health

It should be noted that the region has recorded a total of 5 cases and according to the regional delegate for public health Dr Kingsley Che suh, all the five confined patients are responding to treatment while those they came in contact with have been isolated at Azam hotel which is one of the two confinement centres in the region.

"They're no calls for concern as none amongst the five cases are under respiratory support..."

"..there are also provisions by law for everyone who might have been exposed to Covid-19 and who voluntarily decides to expose the lives of other Cameroonians by travelling to other towns to be severely punished. Reason why we've instructed the third case to get members of her family tested in Douala, and not in Bamenda and she would've loved"
