The commander of the 5th joint military region General Nka Valere, flanked by the commander of the 5th Gendarmerie region Ekongwese Divine, plus other security bigwigs of the region on Friday April 17th paid a visit to the 6th military health sector up station and the police medical centre in Bamenda, where both generals extended to bedridden soldiers and police officers with injuries sustained during their different operations in the region, a message of comfort and hope alongside financial motivation from Defense Minister Joseph Beti Asomo.

"We've come to extend the minister's message of comfort and hope to you all with injuries sustained during your different operations in the current war against the Amba terrorists here in the North West.The minister asked me to present his encouragement and appreciation, and to remind you all that though bedridden, you've not been forgotten... He also asked me to hand to each an everyone of you this envelope of 50.000frs to assist you meet up with your basic needs"

 The message bearer also enjoined the injured officers and medical personnels to observe strictly, the measures put in place by goverment to guard against the  Covid-19 pandemic, described bygeneral Nka as another enemy of the state.

"...the minister also asked me to in this time of the Coronavirus, to remind you to people to also ensure that away from taking care of your different illnesses and injuries, you should also adhere to the coporal and decentralized measures put in place to effectively guard against the Covid-19."

As he, from one bed to the other, handed to the soldier and police officer their envelopes, he gave a listening ear to the men and women in uniform to narrate their ordeal plus the missions that  incapacitated them.

- "Am a senior police Constable. We were ambushed by separatists  at the Bamenda main market on September 15th 2019. I was the one driving and was shot on the neck. Sofar 16 out of the 31 pellets that penetrated my neck has been removed. It's remaining 15. It's a gradual process and the doctor says all cannot be taken out at once."

-"Am inspector of police, victim of a separatists attack in Sabga and came out with a fractured mouth which led to the extraction of some of my teeths"

- "I was shot on both legs by separatists when they attack the police canteen. The doctor had to get flesh from my laps to perform the surgery on  both legs, hence the  scar on my laps". etc

The medical officers in uniform were appreciated for their selfless services towards their wounded colleagues and were financially encouraged for their work as well. 

General Nka and Eko Ngwese rounded up their mission with a tour of the newly constructed police medical centre at GMI.

 Managing Covid-19

The chief medical officer of the 5th military region  Colonel Dr Medecin Amadou just like the Senior superintendent of police medical unit Dr Emani in the face of the Covid-19 pandemic, explained in an interview with the Press that all detachments from regions with the virus are isolated and observed before they are allowed to join their colleagues on the field.

"the military and security forces are respecting the measures. We have a quarantine centre with 60 beds in mile 3 Nkwen wehere can contain cases if they come up. We Respect the 14 measures of hand washing etc with washing points located in all the respective command posts. We even disinfect the vechiles each time we them for operations"

We are here to work and we are happy to work..... We are so ready to tackle the Covid-19. Here at the police medical centre, the new health structure have rooms were cases can be isolated before drawing the attention of those at the regional hospital which is very close to us. And as for the contingent that comes from infected zones, we isolate them and do the necessary examinations for three days. We take their temperature, asked questions etc. When we are sure they're safe, we then send them to the field".
