Covid-19: Patients May Not Present With All The Symptoms - Dr. Denis Nsame

Dr. Denis Nsame is the director of the regional hospital in Bamenda which host a Covid-19 centre otherwise reffered to as the solidarity ward, outside the premises of the hospital compound where Covid-19 suspected and confirmed cases are managed.

According to the director, patients suffering from the disease may not present with all the Symptoms that would normally take their body temperature to over 38°.

"..In the early stage, we have fever that may take your body temperature to more than 38°. Some may present with just two or three but most who present with fever also present with dry cough".

The symptoms of coronavirus include; Fever, dry cough, shortness of breath, fatigue, nausea, vomiting, malaria, salt throat, with lost of taste and inability to perceive odour announced by the Cameroon's scientific committee as new symptoms patients may present with.

These symptoms according to the director presents in the following percentages.

Fever- 58%
Fatigue- 38%
Mucus production (cartaarh)- 33%
Dry cough- 68%
Salt throat- 15%
Shortness of breath- 19%.

"When one starts having shortness of breath, it means the virus is creating distruction in the lungs already. It goes now to you brain the liver and other organs of your body.."

It should be noted that the incubation period for the manifestation of Symptoms is averagely 14days maximum.

Also not all those who present with flu like symptoms like cartaarh cough etc are said to be suffering from Covid-19.

The region as of Sunday June 14 counted 234 confirmed cases with 134 of them active and 63 recoveries.

37 deaths recorded so far and of this number, 3 actually died at treatment centres. The remaining 34 were rushed to the hospital when it was already too late according to the regional delegate for public health Dr Kingsley Che soh
