"Reconstruction is a pathway to peace. This is a program of hope and the objective of this reconstruction and development plan, is to restore the pride of the citizens of the embattled north west and south west regions, by rebuilding the values that supports Community life" the minister said.

The National Co-ordinator of the Presidential Plan for the Reconstruction and Development of the NW and SW regions Paul Tasong was speaking Monday June 22nd, at the launching of a weeklong awareness and sensitization session of the plan with stakeholders involved in the process in the North West region.

The plan he said is structured around 3 core pillars which are;

- Promotion of social cohesion,

- Rehabilitation of Basic social infrastructure,

- and the revitalization of the economy of these two regions.

" The plan constitutes the first phase of a more global development program for the structural transformation of a the two regions which aims to invest massively in the NW and SW for a period of over 10 years, in order to place them at the top of sustainable and inclusive development"

"... The North West region before 2016, was one amongst those regions with the best living conditions in Cameroon. The reconstruction and development plan thus offer us an opportunity not only to put an end to the vulnerabilities brought by the crisis, but also to quickly reverse the situation of hardship brought to bare on people in these regions".

"It is a program of hope. Hope to have a house again. Hope to ply roads with good conditions again. Hope to have water and electricity without interruptions again, for one cannot claim to fight for the interest of the people, yet stop children from going to school, create untold sufferings, kill and even prevent health workers from going to work" he added.

On the question which has been on every lips since the commission was put into place which is;

- Is it possible to rebuild when peace has not return to the two regions?

Minister Paul Tasong said the answer is a big yes, for reconstruction is a pathway to peace, he added.
