Supervising the mid-term evaluation session of the Bamenda II council, the Senior Prefect for Mezam, Simon Mooh Emile told the press shortly after that, it was time to accompany the sensitization on Covid-19 with tough and lawful sanctions oweing to gross violation of the healthy barrier measures put in place to guard against the pandemic in the division specifically.

"Those who disrespect the barrier measures are promoting deliberately and willingly the virus, puting the lives of others at risk"

He also pronounced that he has signed a prefectoral order to this effect, in which he also bans indefinitely, all collective sporting activities within Mezam division.

"I have signed a prefectoral order, banning all forms of collective sports in the division. Those who'll be caught defiling the order shall be immediately ARRESTED and DETAINED in alliance with sanctions attributed by the penal code"

While lauding the Council for it's efforts so far, he re-iterated on the need for the elected officials to re-inforce sensitisation on the barrier measures in their respective quarters.

"Bamenda II is cosmopolitan municipality, the heart of our economic activities, hosting the main markets, the regional hospital, banks, micro finances etc, therefore the councillors must go back to the field and sensitize their people. The virus is within our community and it's important to take security measures to protect our children. Tell the people to put on their face masks, wash their hands with soap, observe the social distancing and others.."

It's worth noting that the SDO denied access to all those who showed up for the session without their protective gears.

Meantime as per an official release from the North West regional delegation of public health dated July 14th, the region since the outbreak of the pandemic has recorded over 600 cases of persons with the virus, with majority of the cases recorded in the region's capital city of Bamenda.
