Don't be sensational, report the facts only - NW mincom boss tells media houses during tour

Newly appointed regional delegate of communication for the North West region Mr Njike Celestine is currently touring some audio visual and print media outfits in mezam.

The familiarisation and acquaintance tour which began Wednesday April 21 will last 3 days and has already taken the communication boss to a number of radio stations like Sky Sport Radio, CBC Radio, Afrique Nouvelle Radio, CBS Radio, Abakwa FM, Radio Evangelium, Radio Hot Cocoa, City FM and Dream FM.

Speaking at these radios Mr Njike Celestine explained that after being appointed delegate, it was but incumbent on him to meet with his collaborators, which happens to be the Media organs, press men and women operating within his sphere of competence.

He told management and staff of the various radios "to avoid sensationalism and partisan journalism, always verify and cross verify information before sending on air, state the facts and nothing but the facts as it's required of them."

He also reminded the radio houses that respecting the ethics and deontology of the profession is what will steer them away from the sledgehammer of the administration and the separatists, especially within this period of crisis.

At every media house he also took time to go through the documents legalizing their operations, checking if they're in possession of all that is required for them to functionally operate as media organs.

The staffing situation, conditions of work and work environment are also some the things he evaluated during the tour.

Some of the challenges presented by the various media outfits included the continues drying up of sources of income oweing to the crisis, which makes it difficult to handle personnel, deal with taxation and carryout maintenance of radio equipments. Frequent power cuts and low voltage, absence of state subventions or media aid for most private radio houses

Mr Njike Celestine also promised to work in synergy with the media owners and Journalists in arriving at solutions to preoccupations that seeks the attention of his office, cautioning media Practitioners to refrain from carrying their problems to social media

Appointed on March 9th 2021, Mr Njike Celestine who took over from Louie Marie as regional delegate for communication North West will wrap up his tour on Friday 23rd with cable operators in the division.
