The Mayor of Bafut - Ngwakongoh Lawrence, who doubles as National Chairman of the Bafut Language has called on displaced indigenes of Bafut residing in Buea, to uphold and preserve their cultural Identity.
"Our language, our identity" Bafut Mayor tells Bafut people in Buea
The Bafut language called "Fut" stands tall as one of the cultural identities of the Bafut people.
Both to those at home and abroad, "Fut" is part of their daily life.
Given the displacement of many sons and daughters of Bafut as a result of the ongoing socio-political crisis in North West and South West Regions of Cameroon, the need to preserve the cultural identity of the Bafut people is more compelling.
It is on this premise that the National Chairman of the Bafut Language who doubles as Bafut Mayor, Ngwakongoh Lawrence paid a visit to the Bafut Community in the South West Region recently to reinforce the teaching of the Bafut Language to displaced persons from Bafut.
"My presence here in Buea is to recognize the Bafut Family. I also came as the National Chairman of the Bafut Language to install a committee that will be responsible for the teaching of the Bafut Language "Fut" to those out of the village", said Mayor Ngwakongoh Lawrence.
Extending a hand of help to those in need, Mayor Ngwakongoh took to his people bags of rice, cartons of soap, bags of salt, cooking oil and buckets to assist them.
Mr Ngwa Jonathan, Buea Chapter President of Manjong, enjoined all sons and daughters to rally forces behind Mayor Ngwakongoh for the development of Bafut municipality.
In the spirit of fostering development, the Mayor donated the sum 200.000 FCFA for the construction of a befitting hall for the Buea chapter association.
