Reflection: Did Mezam mayors ignore Bamenda III cultural festival?

Martial Gnoukapasir

Mayor Fongu Cletus of Bamenda III council

This reflection has been motivated by the fact that away from the city mayor who showed up together with the governor on day one, marking the launching of the festival, this reporter whose sights are still very much healthy couldn't set eyes on colleagues of the host mayor, especially his immediate collaborators who manage the Bamenda city council area with him.

Well, maybe they forwarded their supports in kind or cash but as at this time, this reporter cannot confirm if such was the case.

If they did present an excuse or sent representatives, or maybe supported the initiative one way or the other, then an apology from this writer will be in marching order.

Governor Lele l'afrique who pilots the affairs of the North West region has never in any outing fail to seek concerted efforts from his immediate collaborators when it comes to clamouring for peace in the embattled North West.

He did same when he showed up at the festival ground.

To the best of this reporter's knowledge almost - if not all but most of the councils in Bamenda and beyond have organized peace building activities and from time to time one will spot mayors from other localities around to support such initiatives.

Why then was the case of Bamenda III council Mayor different?

-Did his event not present a platform comfortable enough for colleagues to show up and say a word or two?

-Where they not serve invitations?

-Can one be force to think that it's politically inclined?

While this questions continue to linger in the mind of this reporter, one thing is certain.

The maiden edition of the Bamenda III Festival Heritage of Arts and Culture did pull a huge crowd and attended it's objectives, as even non Nkwen natives showed up and celebrated Culture with their brothers and sisters of Nkwen origin.

That is what one understands as enculturation.

With Nkwen sons and daughters, visitors inclusive leaving the event ground wishing such an activity could come up again by December to help them celebrate Christmas as a community, one can only conclude this random thought by saying those who showed up - Came, Saw and they lived the event.

Comments

  1. Beautiful. Peace building efforts should be collective. It should not be ignored because this coming from the opposition. We all want peace and cultural event like the FEHACU 2021 could just be a stepping stone.

  2. This is beautiful. May the "absentee" mayors rethink their strategy. Their absence means they are the Barriers to peace. Anyone who is against culture is against peace.
