GCE 2022 SESSION: 2 Bamenda DDR Ex fighters made it

33 years old Echu Moses Bessem, currently the senior prefect of the Bamenda Disarmament, Demobilization and Reintegration centre had 4 out of the 8 papers he sat in for, in the just released results of the 2022 session of the General Certificate of Education Ordinary Level.

26-year-old Blessing on her part had 3 papers with 6points in the Arts A1 series-Advanced Level.

The two registered under the Government Bilingual High School old town Bamenda.

Speaking to MNews237 Tuesday August 23rd at the centre, both Moses and Blessing said their motivation to go back to school emanates from a dream of becoming someone society will respect.

According to Blessing" I will always have ambition of becoming a great woman in future. So when I came to the centre there was alot of opportunities for me and going back to school was one of them. I decided to go back to school in order to achieve my dreams.."

For Moses, it was the desire to finish what he started in 2008 " I wrote the O/L in 2008 and never made it. It happens that the crisis started and I'm forced by some friends to get into the bush. I realize it was a waste of time so I came out. When I joined the DDR it dawn on me to go back to school. I'm happy I made it.."

Moses had 4papers and they include French, English, Commerce and Civic Education.

For him and Blessing, it wasn't rosy studying for their respective exams at the centre.

"It wasn't easy at all. At times when you want to read you have to plead with the other ex-fighters to tune down or stop noise. Some will insult you while others would obey. There were times I had to look for other quiet places at the centre to read" Moses told MNews237



Blessing who shared almost thesame difficulty" there's alot of crowd alot of people and sometimes the environment becomes noisy. But I thank the adminstrator and his collaborators for helping us realize this"

Blessing says her certificate means a whole lot to her" I thought with my age I was suppose to somewhere else but I thank God for it. It means a whole lot and I can't even express it"

She told MNews237 that her wish is to write a government "Concour" as she puts it. She also fluently expressed her desire to open a foundation for women in future where women would be empowered"so as to not derail away from their pattern of life" she aptly puts.

Moses on the other hopes to serve in the Civil Cabinet of the government in future.

He confessed that he has and will continue to use his testimony to lure others out of the bushes and to remind them that nothing stops them from pursuing their dreams while at the centre.

Speaking a day earlier at a press briefing in his office, the director of the centre Kum Henry Ichu said the decision to register them for the exams was to help them pursue their education like every other child in Cameroon.

He expressed satisfaction that they made it while calling on those still in the bush to come out and benefit from the full presidential pardon offered them by the head of state Paul Biya.

He also during the Press briefing announced that if all goes well, then the DDR center will operate a pre-nursery and primary school this coming school year.

To note that Moses and Blessing also thanked the Bamenda II council for the financial assistance it offered the centre which helped in registering them for the exams.
