Manipal hospital India trains stakeholders on ways of handling football related injuries

Cameroon will be taking part in the 2022 FIFA world cup to kick off in Qatar this coming November.

Reason why Manipal Hospital Thursday October 27th organized a webinar for football stakeholders, health experts and journalists inclusive on the various football related injuries and more appropriate ways of treating and reporting them.

Given the size and speed of these athletes, it is of no surprise that football has the highest rate of injury of any other sports. Most football injuries occur in the knee. The MCL sprain, meniscus tear, and ACL tear are the three most common types of injuries.

Knee injuries in football are the most common, especially those to the anterior or posterior cruciate ligament (ACL/PCL) and to the menisci (cartilage of the knee).

These knee injuries can adversely affect a player's long-term involvement in the sport.

Given the size and speed of these athletes, it is of no surprise that football has the highest rate of injury of any other sports. Most football injuries occur in the knee. The MCL sprain, meniscus tear, and ACL tear are the three most common types of injuries.

Dr Ayyappan V Nair, Consultant - Shoulder Surgery, Sports Medicine, Arthroscopy seized the opportunity to address the most common sports injuries, football injuries, focusing more on prevention tips and common approaches to treating football related injuries like Epat therapy, RICE method (Rest, Ice, Compress, Elevate), Tapping and strapping, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications, physical therapy amongst many others


Dr Ayyappan V Nair, also took used the webinar to extend his support and medical advice to the Cameroon National Football Team going for World Cup taking place in Qatar, suggesting that the stakeholders involved can start an injury helpline to advise and give medical support to all football players going for world cup.
