CAMTEL'S GM Judith Yah Sunday epse ACHIDI shares with stakeholders, corporation's efforts in driving forward Cameroon's digital infrastructure

In line with activities to celebrate it's 25th anniversary, Cameroons Telecommunication, CAMTEL, the public telecommunications operator of the state of Cameroon has shared and exchanged with stakeholders, strategies the public corporation is putting in place to develope Cameroon's digital infrastructure.
The one-day exchange with telecommunication expert dubbed " Days of Digital Infrastructure" showcased CAMTEL'S determination to guarantee connectivity amongst individuals and government services.
Speaking at the event, Tuesday January 16th in the nation's capital Yaounde, the General Manager Judith Yah Sunday epse ACHIDI said the digital infrastructure days presents an opportunity to expose Cameroon's Telecommunications potential in digitally driving the country's economic environment forward.
Such days according to her, also present an opportunity to take stock of what has been done since it's inception, and if such achievements actually reflects the aspirations and policy, driven by the Head of State his Excellency Paul Biya, which is that of preserving and safeguarding our infrastructure.
Held under the theme " Development and Governance of Digital Infrastructures in The Context Of 2020/30 National Sustainable Development Strategy: Challenges and Prospects", Judith Yah Sunday made it clear to the minister of the Economy, Planning and Territorial Development, other government officials and heads of diplomatic missions that answered present at the Yaounde Hilton Hotel event that, telecommunications, remains a key in the industrialization of the nation as well as in realizing and the SND30.
The one-day exchange forum according to her, was very necessary to bring the stakeholders up to speed, as the level of use of information and communication technologies by local populations and businesses is still very limited, as well as the adoption and appropriation of information technology by public administrators.
"It is in this vein that CAMTEL's top management has set up in a context of "customer centricity", a strategy aimed at controlling the production costs of products and services, and therefore, reducing prices. widespread use of ICT by citizens across the entire territory by ensuring the country's optical fiber network is top notch. The actions carried out have enabled progress including the construction of 12,000 km of optical fiber. The telecommunications development strategy proposed by CAMTEL is thus based on the connection of households and businesses to the already installed optical fiber, on the continuation of investments with a view to modernizing infrastructures, on the extension of geographical coverage in terms of digital infrastructure, on improving the quality of internet service and the offer of new, more attractive products, as well as on the development of the digital economy"
She also reiterated that based on upcoming achievements "CAMTEL
predicts that the telecommunications sector should experience growth of 6.4% by 2030"
The event also presented an opportunity for the CAMTEL team to remind it's audience that the company is sparing no effort in meeting the challenges of connectivity in Cameroon and in the Central Africa sub-region.
"I would like to express hope that this platform will be an opportunity to define the relevant modalities for the development and strengthening of the governance of digital Infrastructures in Cameroon" the GM said, expressing hope that the recommendations and resolutions arrived at during the consultation and exchanges helps in developing the digital Infrastructures of the nation
The digital infrastructure day intended to build the substantial digital infrastructure and reconfigure the national digital ecosystem, follows the CAMTEL digital and decentralisation days that took place last year in October and November last year respectively.
Telecommunication experts at the exchange workshop agreed that there is need to do more to connect users to services considering that 18.4% of the national territory is covered by the 3D and 4D network.
