Mayor Chenwi Peter Donates 100 bags of Cement for renovation works at the Bamenda Metropolitan Cathedral

The Archbishop of the Bamenda Archdiocese, His Grace Andrew Nkea Fuanya has express gratitude to the Mayor of Bamenda II Council, Chenwi Peter, for an unexpected donation of 100 bags of cement made by the latter towards the realization of the extension and renovation works currently taking place at the Bamenda Metropolitan Cathedral.
His Grace, Nkea shared his satisfaction with the mayor for the gift, Tuesday August 9 at the project site where MNews spotted a few number of men transporting the consignment of cement into the cathedral from a Mercedes truck stationed outside.
The Archbishop said the gift wasn't expected but said was a pleasant surprise.
"This is a very big and a pleasant surprise for me, i want to thank the mayor of Bamenda II for coming to visit the Archbishop and to support the renovation works we are doing at the Cathedral. This Cathedral is in Bamenda II and it is going to be a big monument in the municipality, not only for Christians but for all visitors of this municipality. The cathedral will stand out as a landmark to all", he said.
The decision to support the project with one hundred bags of cement according to His Grace Andrew Nkea, was very thoughtful.
" .... my gratitude to the mayor for first of all for his thoughtfulness, for thinking about the project and for ensuring that his own little stone climbs on the wall of this cathedral" Nkea added
Mayor Chenwi Peter and his team was shown round the project by the Archbishop himself, who took time to brief him on the level at which work has progressed, presenting and interpreting certain catholic church artifacts and their biblical meanings. He also gave a clue as to what the cathedral will look like upon completion of renovation works.
Looking visibly spiritually fulfilled and satisfied, mayor Chenwi Peter, drawing inspiration from the book of Psalms, verse 127:1 which says, 'Unless the Lord builds the house, it's builders labor in vain', said "serving the public without serving God is wastage of time".
The mayor remarked that he has always admire the outings of archbishop Andrew Nkea since he stepped foot in the Bamenda archdiocese. Outings which he said has helped a lot in stabilizing and bringing peace to his municipality.
" .. His words and teachings on television, in church and in public has help to change the mindset of many people and bring peace to this municipality and we all know that. So with this type of giant project, I thought I should also come and invest in God's house. it's going to be one of the most gigantic structures in these municipality. I thank my councilor's and deputies for supporting me in this vision and the Bamenda II Council, with the help of partners will be coming to do more in the nearest future", the mayor added
The extension and renovation works at the big mankon metropolitan cathedral started February of this year and going by the archbishop, work is expected to finish by April 2025, preparing groundworks for the celebration of the Golden Jubilee of the consecration of the cathedral.
The Bamenda Metropolitan Cathedral was dedicated in 1975 and next year 2025 will mark 50 years since it's dedication.
His grace, Archbishop Andrew Nkea Fuanya said " The Catholic Church keeps it's history in it's buildings, reason why the renovations are done but not much is touched on the monuments".
The renovations will see two giant screens placed at the sanctuary with statutes of Jesus Christ, mother Mary the ever virgin, saint Joseph etc, weighing over 700kg each, planted at various angles of the cathedral
