Prefectoral Order designating Mbengwiteghenibi a 3rd-class fondom

Despite the protests in Mbengwi few days back, one fact remains, that the Senior Divisional Officer for Momo Division, Fouda Etaba Benoit, officially signed the prefectoral order creating the 3rd Class Chiefdom of Mbengwi teghenibi village in Mbengwi Sub Division, North West Region.

The administrative decision, officially recognizes Mbengwiteghenibi as a distinct traditional entity within Momo Division.

According to the order, the newly created fondom will maintain clearly defined territorial boundaries, separating it administratively from neighboring villages and quarters around Mbengwi.

The document also empowers the Divisional Officer for Mbengwi to organize consultation talks aimed at the future designation of a traditional ruler for the new chiefdom.

However, MNews takes note of the fact that the prefectoral order only creates the 3rd Class fondom and does not appoint or designate any Fon or traditional ruler yet.

The process of selecting a traditional authority is expected to come later through consultations and administrative procedures as stipulated.

The creation of the new chiefdom has already generated mixed reactions within Mbengwi.

While some have welcomed the move as a step towards better representation and development, others have expressed concerns and opposition, especially regarding the division of the village existing structure.

Some members of the broader Mbengwi and Ku communities have raised concerns about the process but those in support of the new fondom say they remain open to dialogue.

A scoop gathered by MNews suggest that Meta Fons under their union, will meet Sunday May 24 to deliberate and chat a way forward on the issue.

Splitting of administrative units is common in the country, with authorities always linking it to say, it's
intended to bring administration and traditional governance closer to the population, improve local representation, preserve community identity, and facilitate grassroots development.

Dialogue with local stakeholders to ensure peace, understanding, and smooth implementation of the new administrative structure will continue, since no counteractive administrative decision is out as at press time.
