By Martial Gnoukapasir
The municipalities of Tubah and Bafut, together with the mayors of the two sub divisions, have been hailed for executing more than half of the projects awarded them under the 2021 investment budget within a duration of 7 months, despite being in areas many has termed 'hot zones' since the escalation of the conflict in the North West.
At the 2nd quarter 2021 technical physico-financial evaluation follow up session of project execution in mezam, the divisional delegate of the economy, planning and regional development Evelyn Mawong alongside chairperson of the commission, saluted the two councils for realizing a majority of their projects for 2021 on time as compared to councils that are in relatively calmed areas.
Tubah Council benefited a total of 10 projects amounting to FCFA 258,210,000 under the public investment budget for 2021.
As at July 15th the council had executed 6 of the projects at 100% and handed to the community with the remaining 4 ongoing, ranking them first in terms of performance with a physical execution rate of 73.77%.
At the 2nd place is Bafut with 66.16% in terms of physical realisation.
Bafut benefited 12 projects to the tune of FCFA 187,050,000 and as at July 15th had also realized a good number at 100%
The ranking of councils in Mezam based on performance for the 2nd quarter PIB 2021 is a follows;
The Mayor of Bafut Ngwakongoh Lawrence, speaking to Mnews237 said "For me coming up as 2nd in project execution is a clear fact that Bafut is not a red zone. Those who keep claiming we are a red zone are enemies who are trying to blackmail Bafut and retard it's development. From the result you can see that even those who say they're in the green zones, they're at zero. Infact we are in the greener zones than them, and by the next sitting I'm sure Bafut must have realized all it's projects"
Mayor Lawrence also noted that the projects were not just executed within central Bafut, as the projects were decentralized.
He seized the occasion to call on stakeholders of the municipality who were dragging them behind in project execution, to sit up.
Meantime the Bamenda city council which is last as per the statistics has just two projects;
- Rehabilitation of street lights,
- Control and supervision for the rehabilitation of street light,
to the tune of FCFA 140,000,000
Both projects have been awarded while realization is still at 0%.
Mezam division for this year 2021 has a total of 117 projects, amounting to FCFA 1,944,770,000.
As at July 15th 2021, over 25 of the projects had been realized, 28 ongoing, with close to 60 projects pending execution , putting physical realization at 28% and financial engagement at just 09%.
