The National President of the Cameroon People's Democratic Movement (CPDM) Youth Wing, Auguste Essomba, has commended youths of Santa for their sustained mobilisation in support of President Paul Biya and the ruling party, urging them to maintain the momentum as the country prepares for the upcoming municipal and parliamentary elections.

Essomba made the remarks on Saturday, October 24, 2026, in Santa, during the Mezam II (Santa) YCPDM Section Conference, which brought together party militants, youth leaders and other stakeholders to discuss party activities and the role of young people in strengthening the CPDM's political presence in the area.

The conference was also marked by donations of medical equipment, food items and educational materials to support the youths, reflecting efforts to promote their welfare and encourage greater participation in party activities.

Addressing participants, Essomba praised the Santa YCPDM Section President, IRIS Zoum Tandong, for his mobilisation efforts during previous elections and for bringing young militants together for the conference.

He also acknowledged the contribution of Santa's elites to youth development and party activities, describing the section as one of the most dynamic in the North West Region in terms of political mobilisation.

"Santa is CPDM and CPDM is Santa. The North West is CPDM and CPDM is the North West," he declared, expressing confidence in the party's historical roots and continued relevance in the region.

Essomba argued that the CPDM's historical association with the North West made it important for party militants to remain committed to its activities and objectives. He expressed surprise that some people in the region support opposition parties, insisting that the CPDM's presence in the North West could not be erased.

Youths celebrates their gifts

Looking ahead to the forthcoming municipal and parliamentary elections, the YCPDM National President called on Santa youths to intensify mobilisation efforts and begin preparing themselves for positions of responsibility within the party and elected institutions.

He noted that young people have a direct stake in the elections, as the outcomes could determine opportunities for them to serve as councillors, deputy mayors, mayors and parliamentarians.

According to Essomba, the elections present an important opportunity for youths to translate their political commitment into leadership and community development.

He urged them to work towards securing victory for the CPDM while preparing credible candidates capable of representing the interests of their communities.

However, he cautioned that the pursuit of political positions should not come at the expense of respect for older party members.

Rather, he encouraged young militants to work closely with experienced politicians, learn from their knowledge and experience, and prepare themselves to assume leadership responsibilities when the time comes.

Essomba stressed that political succession should be guided by competence, preparation and a genuine commitment to public service.

He also called on party elites to recognise the importance of the moment and support the emergence of new political faces, arguing that the renewal of the party's leadership structures was necessary to respond to the aspirations of Cameroonians.

The YCPDM National President further urged young people to make wise choices as they prepare for the elections, warning against selecting candidates based on personal relationships rather than their ability to serve the community.

He maintained that becoming an effective politician begins with making the right choices, including joining the party, understanding its values and supporting candidates with the capacity to mobilise citizens and contribute to local development.

For Essomba, political commitment must go beyond declarations of loyalty. He argued that voting for the party and actively participating in its electoral campaigns were essential demonstrations of support.

He challenged the youths to educate themselves, build their political capacity and identify candidates who understand the needs of their divisions and subdivisions.

The YCPDM leader also appealed to Santa's elites to help rejuvenate the party by creating space for qualified young people and women to participate more actively in political leadership.

He linked this call for renewal to President Paul Biya's emphasis on the role of women and youths, urging party veterans to embrace the emergence of new faces while continuing to mentor younger militants.

Essomba concluded by reiterating the importance of unity, preparation and effective mobilisation, insisting that Santa youths must take their responsibilities seriously if they hope to play a greater role in the party's future and the development of their communities.

He was provided with a gift of a traditional stool, a throne to take Yaounde and a message to the party leader president Paul Biya, that Santa is ready and solidly behind the party in the upcoming municipal and legislative elections.

The conference that took place under the theme, " One Santa, United for Victory, Peace and Development"  served as an opportunity to recognise the contribution of Santa's young militants, strengthen party mobilisation and encourage the next generation of CPDM leaders to prepare for the political responsibilities ahead.
