Cameroon Telecommunications, CAMTEL, will finance 50 percent of the cost of installing internet connections in 130 secondary schools across the Adamawa, Far-North and North Regions.

This follows a framework agreement signed between CAMTEL and the Ministry of Secondary Education, MINESEC, Wednesday, October 7, 2026, at the MINESEC Distance Learning Centre in the nations capital Yaounde.

The agreement follows a request from MINESEC to improve internet connectivity in secondary schools in the three northern regions.

The project is expected to help bridge the digital gap in education and give thousands of students and teachers better access to online learning materials as well as other digital resources.

Beyond internet connectivity, CAMTEL and MINESEC have agreed to work together in other areas, including the hosting of digital learning content, protection of school data and continuous technical support for students, teachers and school administrators.

Speaking during the signing ceremony, the General Manager of CAMTEL stressed that the project should go beyond simply installing internet equipment.

“A connection only fulfills its mission when the service is functional and actively used. Our requirement is simple: when the class begins, the network must deliver.”

Officials at the signing say the partnership is in line with the vision of President Paul Biya to promote skills development among young people and ensure equal access to education across the country.

CAMTEL also said the infrastructure installed in the schools could, where technically possible, extend benefits to surrounding communities, including councils, small businesses and residents.

Following the signing, technical teams from CAMTEL and MINESEC will prepare a work schedule and identify priority schools for the project.

The teams will also monitor the quality of the connections and support teachers and students in using the new digital tools.
