Covid-19: 2020 Closes With 973 Infections, 885 Recoveries And 75 Deaths In Conflict NW.

Going by statistics MNews237 gathered from the World Health Organization's field co-ordinator for the North West Dr Balo Jean Richard, one can mathematically deduce that the region is ending 2020 with 88 cases of infections in the restive region.

The medical expert also confirmed that of this number, there were 13 active cases as at December 19th, with the case fatality rate standing at 7.8%.

The virus according to him, didn't spare the health personnels working day and night to contain the spread of the pandemic within the 19 health districts of the region.

A total of 146 medical staff were infected, 135 recoveries made, 2 currently on treatment and 6 deaths on the list.



The headline figures however represents the statistics of infections recorded in the region since the confirmation of the 1st ever case of the pandemic on March 6th 2020 in Cameroon by the country's health minister Manaouda Malachi.

The WHO field co-ordinator speaking at the end of a training session for members of the response teams in Bamenda on the 19th of December had also disclosed that the region went for 2 weeks without recording a case of the pandemic.


On the challenges the region currently face in tackling the virus, he mentioned lack of adequate resources and resistance on the part of the population to voluntarily do the covid-19 test.
