NW DDR squad celebrates trophy

The football squad of the north west disarmament, demobilization and reintegration centre - The Lions of DDR thursday February 10th emerged victorious in a gala football match against the local administration.

Baptized "Football Tournament for Peace", placed under the patronage of north west governor Adolph Lele Lafrique, the encounter which came on the eve of the 2022 youth day celebration was also part of activities to mark this 56th edition being observed under the theme " Youth and Voluntary Participation in the Major Challenges of Cameroon".

The game at the 6th military region field unfolded under the watchful eyes of the SG at the governors office who sat in for his boss.

The Lions of DDR, captained by the director of the center Kum Henry slot in the first goal into the nets of goal keeper mbigha felix, mayor for Bamenda I who doubles as president for Fecafoot NW after 7mins of play into the encounter.

The first 45mins of the game officiated by the 1st deputy mayor to the Bamenda city council ended in favour of DDR.

The handing over of school bags to over 40 pupils by the NW regional assembly and a performance by the 'dodging sports'(as it was reffered to) girls, introduced the 2nd segment of the game.



DDR#NW local Administration encounter

It won't take long into the 2nd half for the local administration to make their come back and level score to 1-1.

The game went straight to penalties with both goalkeepers making impressive saves.

DDR won the game after scoring two goals during the penalty shootouts to lift the trophy.

Facing the press at the end of the program the director of DDR NW Kum Henry said " it's a win to the process of peace building in the north west. The message behind this match is to correct the erroneous opinion people have about the DDR inmates. A good number of them have dropped their arms, they're sorry and are really sorry for what they did in the past, and want to prove to the society that they're psychologically stable for reintegration into the society.. "
