The head coach of newly promoted elite II football side Rangers FC of Bafut,  has expressed satisfaction with his team progressing to the finals of the first ever  Pre-season Tournament in Bamenda, taking place at the Saint Paul school field in Nkwen.

The club which will be debuting in the elite II football championship of Cameroon this season overpowered elite I champions PWD Bamenda by 1-0 to claim a spot at the finals of the competition.

In an interview after the  encounter described by spectators as the final before the finals of the tournament, the coach said the victory against the boys of the public works department is prove that the club is almost with just few adjustments to be made before the Elite II Championship.

" We played against pwd and to me that's the best team in Cameroon. So for my boys playing in the inferior league to play against the best team in Cameroon, recording a positive result at the end that means we are on our way there. I told the players before the game to forget about levels and titles and play the game plan we practiced during our training session and they did exactly that".

MNews237: Do you see the team picking an elite I ticket from the 2022 elite II season after such a performance here today?

Coach Anumewa : Yes.  Playing against PWD, even if we had lost to the team I still think we have a good club and we're on a good footing.

MNews237: Do you see yourself winning the tournament after reaching the finals?

Coach Anumewa: My problem is not to win the tournament because in our next game we may introduce other players since we want everyone to be involve. We are preparing them for the championship that's coming up. If they win it will be a booster for them but if they don't, they should be able to show us what we've thought them because the league will be intense and short as we are already behind the calendar. We also need to give them time to rest.

MNews237: This competition has as main objective to prepare clubs for this season, what are some of the challenges/ mistakes you've discovered about your team and how do you intend to tackle them?

Coach Anumewa: If we're already at this stage of the competition it tells us that the mistakes are few. Even though i can't say we're a 100% prepared but we're at 75-80% ready and will concretize the rest in our next training session.

Rangers FC since the beginning of the tournament has played 4 games, winning 2 and recorded a draw against hilltop strikers and YOSA.
