Ending 2022: North West Development Authority (MIDENO) counts achievements, review challenges

The Northwest Development Authority better known by it's French acronym MIDENO has counted the successes recorded for the year 2022 as well as highlighted the major challenges faced by the structure in executing it's program.
The strides made by the institution was on Friday December 23rd presented to the media by the general manager - Cletus Anye Matoya, flanked by the director of technical department Ndeh Emmanuel and the administration and finance director Bawe Ndi Ernest.
The managing director Matoya Cletus Anye explained that the structure has always performed base on the means put at the disposal of the authority and that despite the odds, MIDENO has never failed in it's mission to meet the aspirations of farmers every farming season.
"MIDENO is proud of the farmers whose efforts in farming activities remains laudable, their capacities remains undiminished and that's because we are always there to share in their tribulations. Reason why despite the crisis, facing the region for 5 years there's been no food crisis therein and Cameroon as a whole" the general manager said.
With Mission to carry development studies to constantly improve farming as well as livestock activities and methods, improve access on the farm-to-market roads, the director of the technical department cited the following as realisations for 2022:
- Provision of over 20.45 tons of maize seeds to over 587 farmers in the 2022 planting season.
- Secured fcfa7billion from a 100million dollars UN project to combat food insecurity in the north west region for 2023.
- Beef up the seed multiplication farms in Ngoketungia and Menchun division as well as the farm in Nkwen Bamenda.
- Made available the sum of 556million in equipment and personnel for a 1.1billion francs ongoing project for the opening of some farm to market roads in some communities in the region, in collaboration with the ministry of public works.
- Improvement on governance and institutional support on the agricultural sector as well as elaboration of a program with the CBC health board to support some persons with disabilities.
The director of administration and finance added that the North West Development Authority - MIDENO for 2022 successfully channel the files of some workers of the body to the ministry of finance for areas which dates as as far back as 2008 to be paid, after their meticulous calculations.
- The physical and social security debts of the structure were put to rest with retired staff of MIDENO said to be already benefiting from their old age pension
- Workers salary as well as allowances are now being paid and for the first time after 14years he acknowledged that MIDENO received 27 labour medals to reward competence of workers of the cooperation.
The Director general said the 2023 budget of the authority has been elaborated in a way that will permit these medals to be affix on the chest of meriterios workers so they can begin benefiting from it's financial implications
These realization didn't go without challenges, some of which was spelled out and include insufficient functioning subventions and resources from the state which usually come in late and most at times do not match up with the farming calendar.
The security situation of the region is said to have also limited the body's scope of activity in the North West this year.
The Media outing by MIDENO presented an opportunity for the staff via their representative Mr Ndula Lawrence to thank the General Manager for his steady stewardship of the the structure, working day and night to ensure a better working conditions since he took over 4 years ago.
They saluted Cletus Anye Matoya for his policy of preaching by example which they confessed is yielding fruits with some workers being owners of hectres of land on which they carry out farming activities, regular payment of salaries, for the medals and for the food security project which they believe will incorporate some staff during execution.
The Northwest Development Authority boss also used the press conference to assure the farming population that much is is being done to generate wealth and ameliorate the situation of farmers in the region and to make life comfortable for the beneficiary population in general come 2023
To note that the North West Development Authority with its French acronym MIDENO acts on behalf of the Government of the Republic of Cameroon in the North-West Region as the supervisor of development policy and providing a budgetary, financial and technical mechanism for development projects.
It also has as mandate; organizing the communities and promoting the socio-economic environment, improving the living conditions in rural areas as well as conducting any study, research or operations connected with rural development in the North West region
