Bamenda II Council adopts over 2.1billion as budget for 2024

The budget, voted and adopted by councillors of the said council Thursday December 21st according to mayor Chenwie Peter, has seen an over 20% increase as compared to the 2023 budget.
Speaking on the feasibility of the budget and reason for this increase, the mayor said "irrespective of the crisis, i have hard working councillors and through my travels abroad I've been able to sign deals with equipments coming in. We have negotiated funding from partners like Feicom and Minepat which will help us in realizing the low cost housing project, there's Mindevel and also other deals with non governmental organisations that will help us realize the budget and projects"
Mayor Chenwie Peter also used the session to lobby for space through the senior divisional officer for Mezam, to permit the council erect stores that will help them raise revenue for projects in the municipality
The council for 2024, also plan on raising revenue through the collection of global tax.
Some of the projects targeted by the 2024 budget amongst others include:
- Acquiring a bulldozer for the council
- Construction of more social housing projects
- Construction of More Boreholes to combat the water crisis
- Renovation of Schools plus those affected by the crisis
- Supply of medical equipments to hospitals
- Assistance to poor and needy and persons with disabilities to name but these.
On how these projects will be executed with the crisis still raging on, mayor Chenwie Peter said "Bamenda II is a red zone, there's constant shooting and killing there but we have device a strategy where we work with the quarte heads and the Fondoms. we link the contractors with these people to able to execute these projects. We also make sure that those who are executing the projects comes from the beneficiary community. Through this the contractors are able to talk to their people, to see the need of the projects"
The Budgetary session also presented an occasion for the Council to present it newly acquired truck, which according to the authorities that answered present, is a good move that will help the council in revenue generation.
Blessing the truck the Fon of mankon, His Majesty Fru Asah Angwafo IV who answered present at the session said "It's a privilege for me to bless this first truck for the Bamenda II Council. The council needs to develope an equipment pool so that together we can be able to develope our road network, open new roads and develope the municipality. As this vehicle has come, let it open the doors for more vehicles to come"
The Senior Divisional Officer for Mezam who sat in as the supervisory authority lauded the lofty projects proposed to be executed by the council, encouraging the mayor and most especially the councilors to help the executive of the council in realising revenue
The councillors also adopted a total of 10 deliberations amongst which is a deliberation empowering the mayor to construct a road leading to the low cost social housing site and another to extend and fix the rate of the council hall.
