CNYC:North West Bureau Counts Achievements, Outlines 'Mouth-Watering' Plans for Youths Come 2024

The North West office of the Cameroon National Youth Council (CNYC) headed by Mekom Samuel Taleh has outlined a number of Social, Cultural, Economic, Peace and development projects which they say upon implementation, will arm youths of the North West morally and benefit them economically come 2024.
This was at the budget orientation debate of the structure that took place Wednesday December 27th at the auditorium of the North West Regional Assembly, bringing together delegates of the youth Council from all seven divisions of the region, with the National president of the CNYC Fadimatu Iyawa, North West regional delegate for youth affairs and representatives from some opposition political parties in attendance.
Members of regional executive team of the council, speaking at the start of the session chaired by North West Governor, represented at the event by his secretary general Basiliken Georges, frowned at some uncivil behaviors which have been adopted by youths such as, propagation of hate speech on and offline, indecency in thoughts, language and dressing, laziness, disregard for national emblems, drug abuse among others.
Reason why the council took a firm commitment to in 2024, continue with it's mission of rearming the youths morally with civic values intended to promote respect for state institutions and love for fatherland.
Speaking at the ceremony the regional president Mekom Samuel said the council with over 1021 youth associations affiliated to it, was able to embark on it's mission of bringing back the spirit of patriotism amongst the youths, demonstrated at the 2023 youth week launched in Nkambe - Donga mantung division.
The North West Bureau of the council according to him and his team, was also proud to have executed the following projects in 2023:
- Provide scholarships to some 26 under privileged students at the university of Bamenda
- facilitated the recruitment of over 200 youths specializes in the production of pavement bricks,
- Sponsored matured youth projects in small scale projects for over 200 youths ranging between 45000 - 100000fcfa per projects
- Mentorship, carrier orientation and internships
- Facilitate the training of some youths in flyer making and video editing
- Organize a series of workshops and engaging youths in the peace building process
- Combatting gender base violence by sensitizing during the 2023 16 days activism against GBV
- Economic empowerment seminars
- Engage youths in volunteering programs among others.
- Engaging youths in sports and cultural activities
The council for 2024 according to the president and his team says the intend to do more in this regard come 2024.
They also indicated that the activities of the council next year will benefit 62000 youths directly and 32000 youths indirectly.
There's also plan to engage in waste management in the region, sensitization of bike riders and taxi drivers on the high way code, acquisition of service cars amongst others.
On how the council intends to realize the over 840million budget adopted at the session, the president Samuel Mekom said "The head pf state has given us the special status and the content of this special status is not defined. it is left for young people like us in the North West to explain to the head of state what they think if it's done, will be good. All the Budgetary heads have nomenclature and about 80 percent of the budget goes directly to empower and establish the young persons in the north west region. we also have subventions from the government though sometimes there's delay in having it.. We have the means to raise this budget and execute it"
The national president of the Cameroon National Youth Council, Fadimatu Iyawa used the occasion to present answers to some worries raised by the youths, reminding them that they are just a youth council under the tutelage of the ministry of youth affairs.
She added that "empowering the youths should not be a mere idea, it is an urgent necessity for the sustainable development of our society"
She also indicated that it was imperative for youths to always reflect on their pivotal role in shaping the destiny of Cameroon.
