Stakeholders Hail CAMTEL'S Efforts In Fostering Local Development

Stakeholders who answered present at the 'CAMTEL Decentralisation Day', a one-day forum organized by Cameroon's telecommunication giant to discuss the contribution of digital technology in fostering local development in the country, have saluted strides made by the company in promoting local development.

Under the theme "Digital Development : Vector for the acceleration of the local development process in Cameroon", participants of the forum which took place Tuesday December 5th in the nation's capital Yaoundé, discussed on the challenges and approaches to digital development as well as the stakes and challenges of digital development within local and regional authorities.

The General Manager of Cameroon Telecommunication (CAMTEL) Judith Yah Sunday epse ACHIDI who opened and closed discussions at the forum, said at the end of discussions that " The CAMTEL Decentralisation Day has given us a clearer picture of the decentralisation process in Cameroon and the related challenges in terms of digital development. It has also enable us to highlight the contribution of digital technology to the promotion of local development and to understand the progress made by regional and local authorities in developing the local economy and e-governance as well as the constraints related thereto".

She further indicated that the rise of digital technology and the promotion of local development in Cameroon as envisaged in the National Development Strategy 2020-2030(SND30) will be achieved, with the unwavering contributions from the various actors involved.

She added : "CAMTEL intends to play it's role better than ever before. The multiple achievement in terms of development of telecommunications infrastructure and provision of diversified electronic communication services, constitute important foundation on which the contribution of the incumbent telecommunications operator in Cameroon intends to build".

To note that the 'CAMTEL Decentralisation Day' took place within the framework of activities marking the Company's 25th anniversary, placed under the distinguished patronage of the Head of State, president Paul Biya.

The national public telecommunications operator under it's current General Manager Judith Yah Sunday epse ACHIDI, has seen a good number of innovations which has facilitated e - governance within regions and councils, fast tracking the decentralisation and local development process.
