CDENO Supports North West Farmers with 30,000 Chicks, 100 Piglets and 142.5 Tons of Feed

Hundreds of livestock farmers in the North West Region have received support from the North West Livestock Development Fund, CDENO, as part of efforts to increase livestock production and improve the livelihoods of farmers.

The assistance was distributed on Friday, September 25, 2026, at the esplanade of CDENO in Bamenda during the fifth edition of the institution's mass distribution of livestock inputs.

The ceremony was presided over by the Governor of the North West Region, Adolph Lele Lafrique, and brought together administrative authorities, representatives of MINEPIA, livestock farmers, cooperative leaders and other stakeholders.

Over 550 livestock farmers, including persons living with disabilities, benefited from this year's assistance, comprising of 30,000 day-old chicks, 100 pure-breed piglets and 142.5 tons,  equivalent to about 5,350 bags of animal feed.
 
This 5th edition also witnessed an additional support for dairy farmers identified through MINEPIA under the Integrated Agropastoral and Fisheries Import Substitution Plan (PIISAH).

Mbah Shupong Michael, the director of CDENO, speaking at the ceremony, said the programme is routinely design to not only support farmers financially but also to encourage them to see livestock farming as a sustainable source of income.

He further said, the inclusion of farmers living with disabilities was particularly important, stressing that disability should not prevent people from engaging in productive economic activities.

Mr Mbah Shupong Michael, also called on beneficiaries to regularly update CDENO through MINEPIA field staff on the progress of their farms, so as to help government better monitor the impact of the assistance and provide continues support.

The choice of September for the distribution, according to CDENO, is also strategic, since it coincides with the peak period for brooding and is intended to allow farmers to have products ready for the market during the end-of-year festive season.



For the farmers receiving the assistance, the support comes at a time when many are working to rebuild and expand their activities.

Farmers were encouraged to deal directly with CDENO when seeking subsidised inputs so as to benefit from government support and avoid possible exploitation by intermediaries.

The programme is expected to strengthen cooperation between CDENO and livestock farmers and contribute to increased production in the poultry, piggery and dairy sectors in the North West Region.
